Friday Fun – What’s in the box?

posted at 11:48am, 22 Jan 10 by Yasmin [ 19 comments ]

What do you do with Christmas presents you don’t want? Whatever you do – don’t throw them away! Even if you don’t love that jumper, bike or kitchen set, there is definitely someone out there who will.

Instead of binning your gifts, you can take them down to your local Oxfam store, put them up on freecycle or even swap them for something you really like at a swishing event.

Gifts can be tricky but when you get it right, it’s amazing. For Friday Fun this week, we want to hear what you would put inside this box (pictured below) and who you would give it to.  The gift could be for someone you know or for a celebrity.

To enter Friday Fun: Post your gift ideas in the comment box below. As usual, the most creative entry will win so be as inventive as you can! The winner will receive a selection of Tropical Wholefoods goodies and a Cafédirect product of their choice.

To start you off…I would give George Clooney a month’s supply of our award-winning single origin coffees and a cafétiere so he could make excellent tasting coffee the old-fashioned way.

  1. Cafédirect HQ says:

Thank you all for your Friday Fun entries. We really liked Ben’s idea to create the world’s fairest compost using Cafédirect coffee from his local café. He wins some goodies from Tropical Wholefoods and a Cafédirect product of his choice.

Thanks also for all of your comments about Haiti. Visit http://www.dec.org.uk/ if you would like to donate to the Haiti relief effort, and keep checking our blog for updates from our Haitian coffee partners too.

  2. Brian Douglas says:

Good to see that George Clooney and Co are getting in on the Haiti act. Fair play and Fair Trade. But George Clooney my arse, I’d give him a run for his money any day! Any takers?

  3. Emily says:

I’d fill it up with Fairtrade tiramisu and chocolate pudding ingredients (and maybe a few fairtrade pants!) and send it to my wonderful fairtrade-obsessed boyfriend to keep him occupied while I’m out of the country for four months (at least while he’s not working at his compost).

  4. Kathleen says:

OK-you know that person with the nasty breathe in your office? Give them a tongue scraper or two, serious pharmacutical (sp?) grade mouth wash, and tons of minty sugarless gum. Maybe a can of lysol too and a surgical mask. Maybe a puke bag from the airplane too.

  5. Katie Russell says:

I would decorate the box first with differently coloured pieces of tissue paper and fill it with love hearts inside the box.I would be inside and when my boyfriend opens the huge box I will come out like a Jack in the Box and ask him to Marry me and he will accept.I would then shower him with lots of love and give him some strawberries and cream which will be in the box but the clotted cream type. There would be a love hearts hamper in there along with bath foam and other nice things.

  6. @seriouslykooky says:

I’d put a hug and a kiss and send it to my friend who’s emigrated to Australia.

  7. MARY MULLARKEY says:

I would put into the empty box, cafedirect coffee, yum, and I would put stephen balwin in there,
he loves his coffee, he loves his jesus christ,
But christ, hate to say it, he’s getting on my nerves,
I would gladly take him down to oxfam.

  8. Ben says:

I would line the empty box with a plastic bag and give it to my local cafe (who already serve Cafedirect coffee). I’d ask them to fill it up with used coffee grounds and give me the box back – then I’d use it to make the world’s fairest compost :-)

  9. Maggie Mackenzie says:

I would send a box to Sandra Bullock as she has donated a million dollars of her own money to Haiti and inside it i would place a gold plated halo.

  10. KATIE PLANT says:

I would put in a fairtrade teabag, a paperclip, a golf ball, a stamp and some bright pink ribbon, send it to McGyver and see what he could make!

  11. Jimmy says:

I’m sure George Cloony will love the taste of the coffees you’ll give him – as the UN’s representaitve of Peace, I expect the coffee will taste all the better knowing that it’s not made by a company that has immoral marketing to third world countries, and that instead of the extreemly wasteful coffee pods he promotes he’ll welcome the fact that the Cafedirect coffee used in his cafetiere can be put on the compost, or used as a skin exfoliant!
Perhaps he’s secretly been using it to achieve the healthy golden glow!!

  12. Coistycat (Donna B) says:

I would give Vinnie Jones a months supply of your fabulous coffee as by the look of him he really needs it to help cope with all the idiots he is locked up with in the Big Brother House. xx

  13. Kimberley Stone says:

Water, Food and Shelter, plus messages of love and hope for the people of Haiti

  14. Geraldine Gibson says:

I would give Simon Cowell a months supply of Cafe Direct everyday teabags cos he’s swapped high living for Haiti giving, turning his trade to creating more aid, so I’d give him a mug and a big ‘thank you’ hug!

  15. sarah bailey says:

    a wire sculpted elephant

  16. Lucy Cotterill says:

I would put in some trousers or a skirt for Lady Gaga, cos she reguarly seems to go out forgetting to put hers on!! :)

    Lucy x

  17. Nicky Russell says:

I would give a Caredirect Coffee Lovers Gift Hamper to Tiger Woods, as he is afterall, the world’s GREATEST lover, and the poor man is on an enforced “Love” Ban, so he’s going to need a substitute. What better choice !!!

  18. Cher says:

Id give Jedward some decaffeinated fairtrade coffee to stop them bouncing off the walls. And maybe an iced mocha (see what I did there.. ice ice baby. im a nerd!)

  19. jennifer thorpe says:

I would firstly put myself into the box with selection of fresh fruit and chocolate body paint, Then send it to robbie williams :-)
