Friday Fun – coffee & tv on tv….
Today’s Friday Fun builds on previous theme of coffee or tea in songs.
You came up with some great coffee, tea and cocoa song titles, – probably enough to release a “Best of hot drinks hits” – and then took it a step further with song puns such as ‘Wake Me Up Before You Cocoa’. This week we’d like to hear your favourite coffee, tea or cocoa related films or tv shows, or your favourite coffee, tea or cocoa moments from the big (or small) screen!
Whether its a documentary like Black Gold, a scene with Mrs Doyle and a cup of tea in Father Ted or Gene Wilder with an edible teacup in the Willy Wonka movie, we’d love to hear them.
The rules are simple:
Post the name of the scene/movie/tv show in the comment box of this blog post BY 5.30pm today. The most creative or interesting entries will be chosen by judges from Cafédirect and announced on Monday on our blog.
This week’s prize is a ‘Winter Warmer’ set of knitted accessories (pictured) from our friends at People Tree plus some Cafédirect San Cristobal Drinking Chocolate. We have three sets to give away! If you’re not lucky enough to win this great prize, our friends at People Tree will give you 25% discount on their online store with the promo code PTCD09. (The offer is valid for online orders only and can only be used once. Offer not valid in conjunction with any other offers. Offer expires 23/12/09 at midnight.)
Prizes can only be sent to a UK or Ireland postal address.
Good luck!

Pulp Fiction Opening Restaurant Scene, nice relaxing coffee to kick start the robbery!
http://bit.ly/x2A7f
one of my favorites is Humphrey Bogard in that all-time black and white great film – CasaEspresso
@james_rock
Americano Beauty
Murder on the Orient Esspresso
The Darjeeling Limited
you can’t beat watching the polar espresso on a cold winter afternoon
Working Girl when Harrison Ford offers Melanie Griffith’s character Tess when drink a cup of tea because, as he says, it always sounds good to him when he’s in her condition and Joan Cusack when she pretends to be the secretary and offers Harrison Ford “Coffee, Tea, Me”?
Oh and of course Dirty Harry’s famous line “Come on Punk make my Chai!”
Lots of funny moments in Central Perk on Friends (which inspired a young people I worked with to set up and run their own coffee shop for young people … fantastic!)
Sorry should be ‘group of young people…’
There is a film called Cha no aji (English title: The Taste of Tea!)
I love the ritual of tea drinking in period dramas. It always seems so elegant and refined. It makes me rush off to put the kettle on half way through!
Some movies:
American Graffi-tea
Dir-tea Harry
American Beau-tea
Pineapple Expresso
Bean
My children always loved the tea scene in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang – very infectious laughter though we never floated!
A fantastic film, where a coffee cup finally draws the ending and conclusion together with an unexpected twist.
Watching the film, everyone’s eyes are drawn to the bottom of this coffee cup where it is finally revealed who they should have been looking for in ‘The Usual Suspects’.
The Bucket List – the 2 main characters discuss the World’s rarest coffee and one claims it is the best he has ever tried. The way this coffee is made is indeed unusual!
My favourite is:-
“Lawrence of Arabica”
The conversation between Ethan Hawke and Winona Ryder in Reality Bites – All we need is a couple of smokes, a cup of coffee, and a little bit of conversation. You and me and five bucks.”
TV Show – Friends – Central Perk. Id love to have a nice milky coffee there and sit on the sofa and gossip with the gang. It always looks so cosy!
Film – Brief Encounter – When they meet in the train station tea room. Its so romantic. Celia Johnson and her cuppas whilst guiltily lusting over Trevor Howard. Is tea an aphrodisiac? I think that little tea shop made the film!
Favourite moment: I love the tea ceremony scene from The karate Kid II (it had to have something good in it!lol) it’s so sweet, how awkward he starts out but really gets into it and shows the beauty of the ceremony by the end of it.
Favourite series: The gold blend adverts, totally classic and kept you looking for the new ones when you knew they were due out!
Thanks for all the entries!
This week’s lucky winners are………..
Jo Bryan with Working Girl ‘coffee, tea, me’ moment, Cher Waite with Brief Encounter tea scene, and finally Hazel with the tea scene from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
More Friday Fun this week, and don’t forget 25% discount on People Tree’s online store with the promo code PTCD09.
