Nominate Cafédirect for the Green Web Awards
We’ve been blogging and tweeting about Cafédirect, our way of doing business and our pioneering environmental projects (like AdapCC and the energy saving work we’re doing with tea farmers in Kenya) since February.
It’s been a great way to be able to connect growers with people in the UK who love our award-winning hot drinks, and start conversations with Fairtrade activists and interested bloggers all over the world.
If you read our blog, buy our Fairtrade drinks or just like the way we work, please nominate us for a Green Web Award in the “Food and the Planet” category.
Now that we’ve been blogging for about eight months, I thought I’d look at some of the highlights from the blog:
1. The blog’s given us a chance to connect growers with Cafédirect lovers in the UK, and let growers speak about their work, their lives and their partnerships with Cafédirect. Check out posts such as Raul, from Cocla answering your questions about Machu Picchu coffee, and Andrew from Michimikuru in Tanzania talking about climate change and tea farming.

2. Talking about our environmental work – We’re pioneering with AdapCC, our three year public-private project to find adaptation solutions for smallholder farmers who are affected by climate change. We’ve been able to tell people about the project, hear from growers about the way climate change is already affecting their lives and help people to reduce their environmental impact in the UK.

3. Friday Fun – whether it’s captioning a photo of a giant banana drinking our coffee or nominating your energy saving tips. It’s great to hear from so many people, and a highlight of our Monday morning meetings to judge the entries.
4. Cafédirect on the catwalk - we’ve served Cafédirect everywhere from Stella McCartney’s Paris shows, at the Hay Festival and at coffee tasting events with the Women’s Institute and the blog is the perfect place to share photos from the events.
5. Friend of the month – we make connections with a vast range of people, and every month we highlight a Friend of Cafédirect on the blog. We’ve had supporters who’ve travelled to visit co-operatives, like Ralph who picked Machu Picchu coffee in Peru and Fairtrade activists like Bex from the London Fairtrade Campaign.
Let us know if you’ve had a favourite post on the blog by leaving a comment below, and please take the time to nominate us for the Green Web Awards!
