Some of the Cafédirect UK team are visiting tea and coffee growers in Uganda and Tanzania at the moment to see firsthand what’s involved in bring tea and coffee to you.

Ben Styche from our Sales team has been in touch to tell us how their first day went. Here’s what he has to say:

“One small leap for Ben………one giant leap for Cafédirect! After 15 hours travelling we’ve crossed the equator in Uganda! We’ve been chased by thick black clouds (a welcoming sight for all the farmers, as the rains are now on their way) and have arrived at Igara Growers’ Tea Factory Limited. Tomorrow we start the day by joining the Board for their monthly meeting, followed by a two day journey from a farmer’s house all the way through the production chain to seeing bagged tea ready for export.

Supper of deep fried Tilapia (local fish) and some of the local brew with the Chairman and General Manager of Igara gave us a brief insight into to some of the challenging and frank questions we’ll have coming our way at tomorrow’s board meeting! Looking forward to it!”
