Inspiring Women, Ethical Business

The winners have been announced for the best female led ethical businesses in Britain and at Cafédirect we’re so excited that the Ethical Business category has been won by our very own Anne MacCaig , CEO of Cafédirect.

Anne MacCaig

In her acceptance speech, Anne spoke about the fact that she was accepting the award as a representative of the growers that make up Cafédirect: “I’m really not standing here accepting this just as myself, because Cafédirect is entirely about 250,000 smallholder growers that we work with around the world in 13 different countries, and I’m just representing them”.

We’ve been celebrating in the office with some of the grower representatives who are in London at the moment for the Cafédirect Board meeting.

During the awards ceremony last night, Triodos Bank showed nine short films of the finalists in each of the categories. Each showed an outstanding and inspiring woman leading business in an ethical direction.

The Ethical Small Business winners are Sarah Brooks and Susi Lennox from Yes Pure Intimacy and the Ethical Entrepreneur award has gone to Rose Marley, CEO of MOTIV . A fellow Fairtrader, Heather Gardener-Masoud from Zaytoun, importer of olive oil from Palestine won The Times Reader Award.

I think that everybody who came to the awards last night left feeling a bit more positive about the world.  And as Anne said in her speech, perhaps they will take this inspiration further:

“Cafédirect is a fantastic business model, and I really hope that what this award does for us is inspire lots of other organisations to work in partnership with growers because of the enormous impact it has on lives around the world.”
