‘Spring’ reception with the Scottish Fair Trade Forum

Yesterday evening I had the pleasure of attending a reception at the Scottish Parliament, hosted by the Scottish Fairtrade Forum.

It was a chance for me to meet the great and the good from the Fair Trade movement in Scotland. They are striving to become the second, (but biggest) Fairtrade Nation (after Wales) where ‘the values of fairness and equality are embedded in all levels of society.’

I was really encouraged by the progress they have been making; the number of Fairtrade Towns in Scotland has doubled since the establishment of the Scottish Fair Trade Forum in 2007,and enjoyed getting the lowdown from People & Planet, as well as catching up with Martin Meteyard, a former chairman of Cafédirect and now Chairman of SFTF. It was also very movitavting to see the level of support shown by the Scottish Parliament to the Fairtrade movement, and in particular, Alison McInnes MSP who sponsored the evening.

You can catch up with the Scottish Fair Trade Forum at the Royal Highland Show where they will be hosting a VIP Fair Trade Tea Party which will bring together key people from Scottish farming and those with links to Fairtrade Producers.

Keep up the good work Betsy!

I appreciated my first coffee more than usual today; double espresso at 7am straight off the sleeper train!
